What increases your risk for ACS?

Acute Coronary Syndrome can affect anyone, but there are some risk factors that make some people predisposed to developing the condition.

ACS can affect anyone with risk factors for heart disease. The likelihood increases with age, especially if you:

  1. Have conditions like hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol or diabetes.
  2. Are a smoker
  3. Are overweight or obese.
  4. Lead a sedentary lifestyle with minimal physical activity.
  5. Consume a high-fat diet.
  6. Have a family history of early heart disease, indicating a genetic predisposition, such as a mother, sister, or daughter developing heart disease before the age of 65, or a father, brother, or son experiencing heart disease before the age of 55.

While genetic risk factors cannot be altered, there are risk factors that can be altered to help protect your heart. Adopting healthy habits plays a pivotal role, such as improving dietary choices, increasing physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, and not smoking.
